Back in the U.S.S.A.
Well…we’re here again. Couldn’t resist the draw of LA and it’s surrounds. Our flight went much smoother than last year’s one; the plane left on time and arrived close enough to its landing slot that we didn’t need to bus from the plane to terminal. We also came through a smaller customs terminal so missed out on that two-hour queue we had last year. Melbourne airport was more relaxed too, the only surprise was when IrishKing got selected for random security screening. The suspect was subjected to a clothes swab and then deemed not to pose a threat (phew!) and subsequently released without further questions.
The plane had some empty seats that we managed to grab an extra three of so the kids could lie flat and get some sleep. By the time we picked up the car we were tired but not too bad, and because we had 6 people we availed of the carpool lanes to cut through the traffic!
Upon arrival at the Hotel we were told that the room would be ready in an hour. We decided to wait in reception whilst it was readied. I asked to get the internet connected on our phones about 30 mins later and was told it’d be another hour before the room would be ready, but five minutes later the receptionist told us we could have an upgrade as that room had just come available – woo hoo!
After a couple of hours sleeping off the flight we took a drive to whole foods to sort out some dinner and supplies for the first few days (they sell Kerrygold butter!). Whilst there IrishCyborg asked me an unusual question – “Did you ever suffer from amnesia?” to which I honestly replied that I can’t remember a single time it happened!
