a tale of two cabins
IrishWrath felt a bit run down today, at one point he thought he was going to be sick. Luckily we had already decided by then not to chance skiing (ski runs and ill children don’t mix). We started the day with a coffee from starbucks. As an aside; yes they have starbucks at 7000 feet… and McDonalds… and KFC and at least three petrol stations, a couple of big brand stores and a large supermarket. I’m amazed at the size of the town and the relative similarity in prices for things. We were at Falls Creek (Victoria) last July, they aren’t as high as here, don’t have a petrol station, McDonalds or KFC and the prices of things there are considerably higher than back on terra firma… but I digress. Today we brought the kids to a snow tubing run which they loved. IrishMum noticed IrishDoom and IrishCyborg half climbing half sliding down the snow hill before the magic carpet that drags the snow tubes up to the top, they never miss an opportunity to mess.
They spent most of the morning and a bit of the afternoon there, coming out with red faces. IrishWrath perked up a bit too and joined in the fun. Whilst there we decided that the cabin we got last night wasn’t up to spec (there were a lot of little things that didn’t work and/or were dangerous for the kids) so I decided to man up a bit and phone the guy we had rented from to tell him we weren’t happy and would like a partial refund and early checkout. He was very accommodating and agreed.
We then rang The green House Big Bear (who we had been in touch with previously but had arranged the other cabin first) to ask if that one was still available – it was; we came up to inspect and thought it was absolutely fabulous. I’m typing this before an open log fire which IrishMum lit, the view is fabulous and the cabin interior could have been designed in cupertino it’s that good. A big high five for this place!
