another brick in the wall
Lego is a big ticket item in our house. We’ve got tonnes of the stuff, occasionally they’ve been told “no more!” but the stockpile seems to just grow and grow. Naturally Legoland California was on the itenerary for this holiday. IrishCyborg asked to come today and we agreed. It is nearly twenty miles north of the hotel but easily commutable within a half hour so we got there pretty early. There were showers expected today and sure enough it rained after lunch by the bucketful. It was mostly dry in the morning though so we go through most of the rides (all the ones we wanted to anyway).
On the way in we had put IrishWrath and IrishCyborg’s names down for the Mindstorm show at 3:30 where they got to program their robot to hunt for treasure. We have one of these robots so they both have prior experience with it, but they still liked the way it was set up; with a target to fire shots at and specific tasks to get done in order to release the treasure. While it was raining after lunch we sought to stay dry using the rain ponchos and by frequenting the indoor attractions. The problem with that is the rain ponchos don’t stand up to heavy rain and the indoor attractions are few (plus all other park patrons had the same idea). There were long breaks in the rain, during one of these we got the boys through the “driving test”. The highlight for this was when IrishCyborg drove on the left and apologetically called out to the other drivers “sorry… but I’m Australian so I drive like this!”. We finished up the day at the park in the shop buying up more lego minifigures and then strolling through the miniland section. All the rides were closed at that point but we didn’t mind (except that the puddles were making our feet get wet). We were the last car to leave. On the way home we stopped for dinner at the Ruby’s diner that we first found last year. It’s still a favorite. It started raining again as we left, but we still managed to brave it in order to get in some shopping at the GAP, then back to Ruby’s for ice-cream. As the sugar buzz kicked in we bundled them into the car for a noisy drive home.
