four airports and a time shift

We had a long and tiresome trip but we are home safe and sound at last. We arrived early at Orlando airport to hear that our first flight was going to be an hour late.

The ‘Floatilla’ of luggage

Our plan was to check in the maximum number of bags (12 although four of these were carry on size). When we got to check in (with Delta) they told us the bags would be checked right through to Melbourne (Hurrah!) but it didn’t quite work out like that. The delta flight was good, they were only the hour late. There were three hours scheduled between our arrival in LA and the flight out to Brisbane but the delayed departure meant we now only had two hours, and given the mayhem we experienced on our first visit to LAX I wasn’t all that comfortable with our chances, so we got a bit pushy on the way off the plane.

The LA to Brisbane flight was also running late so we made it ok. The shops were just shutting but luckily we got a couple of bottles of water before closing (last orders…have ye no homes to go to?). At Brisbane airport we were told that Virgin computer systems had crashed so we ended up having to cart the bags from the international terminal to the domestic one on the bus.

Our plane was late arriving and so the last flight of the day was three hours late. We watched the bags getting loaded onto the plane from the departure terminal and tried to count our ones as they zipped up the chute. When we got to Melbourne airport, all twelve bags arrived out on the carousel, I hailed a maxi cab which IrishMum and boys took home (with all the luggage). I picked up our car from the long-term car park and headed home. The holiday was fantastic, we had a brilliant time and it’s nice to be home. Now it is time to sort out our life and laundry.
