free fallin’
There was a change in our plans this morning. It was a fresh day, a little on the cold side so we elected to visit Seaworld instead of Universal. It got warmer as the day progressed, but first stop had to be the coffee stand to speed the warming process. Seaworld is more about the animals than the rides, but there was enough to keep the children’s attention.
We saw the dolphin nursery where they keep the mothers with calves, the attendant was very helpful and eager to answer any questions. IrishWrath and I went on a Manta coaster where you scoot round on your belly doing some loops and twisting round, then we headed over to the main Dolphin enclosure and saw some Manatees on the way. They are fascinating animals to watch; IrishMum could have sat and looked at them longer but the kids had minds for other stuff. We went on a raft/coaster which IrishKing really liked, especially the big drop half way through. We went on this ride four times. They have a coaster called the Kracken here; What is the Kracken like? I hear you ask…..it’s Mighty I tell ye! (note to non-Irish readers: google craic for explanatory notes). IrishWrath wanted to try it out so I signed up as cohort. It’s one of those coasters where your feet are dangling below you. It has a 144 foot drop at the start where you feel like you are in freefall. It also goes through some tunnels (where I kept thinking I was gonna Kracken me head!).
Round about 4 pm we headed over to the smaller kids play area where they have a suspended tunnel and net system that children can zoom round and easily loose their chasing parent. After several minutes I gave up chasing and went back down to terra firma to try and keep an eye on them from there. There was an Orca show which we went to at 5pm, the trainers didn’t get in the water with them which I guess might be due to that accident last year, but personally I’m not overly impressed with seeing animals doing unnatural things like tossing trainers in the air so that is a plus in my book.
The park closed at six so we headed off to get something to eat then got to the Mall at Millenia for the last hour before it closed.
