The Cubby

A few years ago Grandad was out from Ireland for a visit. Not the type to sit around while here, he got himself a project. The boys asked for a cubby, and he got to building.

The Cubby

They didn’t want an ordinary cubby, but a luxury two-story delight. He built it to their plans, including some small cut outs so they could fire their water guns out at passers-by. I learned very quickly not to pass the cubby when I hear sneaky laughter from inside.

Everyone loved it, including Bailey. Look at him, and his spiky hair. Titan wasn’t even on the scene back then.

The Cubby

They used the cubby daily for years. It was a no adult area, and I let them keep it how they please. They were mostly house proud, but occasionally I spurred a spring clean. (Have you noticed a certain kid in the previous photos who has a look of ‘I Don’t Want To Stand Still For Stupid Photos’ about him? See if you can spot him below.)

Sometime last year something changed. They were using the cubby less and less. It turned into a junk room for stuff they were too lazy to put away, and a dumping ground for Lego.

The Cubby

A couple of weeks ago I got the bright idea to revamp the cubby, and sort the Lego. It didn’t seem like a big project at the time. After a short discussion with my boys we decided on a paint job, and new flooring.  IrishDev took the task of painting and the floor. Myself and the boys took on the tidying and organizing. I put the boys to work.

Most did it without issue. Even Bailey helped.

But there is always one who complains. “It can’t be tidied; it’s too messy!!!”. “This box is too heavy!!!”. Funny how he is the messiest, and the most averse to tidying.

The Cubby

The Cubby revamp has begun. Tune in next time to see how it’s going.
