meet the shoppers
Sunday, being the weekend, was not a day for parks; it was a day for shopping. I ended up getting the most things, but we did spend some time looking for kids clothes. We had the electronic babysitting devices (Nintendos) charged up and ready for action. High up on our shopping list was footwear, in particular we wanted to get some runners (sneakers…whatever) for the kids to go with their new tracksuits, purchased on a previous retail adventure. We tried Reebok, Adidas, Converse and Nike. In the outlets, all the brands have their own individual shop. The other day, when we were in a Nike shop, I overheard a Spanish-speaking lady argue with the guy because she wanted a separate Nike bag for each item she was buying, but he wasn’t budging on their ‘one bag’ policy. When it was my turn I asked what the argument was about, and then jokingly asked if he could bend the rule for me….no (he was not impressed!). I suppose those Nike bags are trendy in some parts, and the shop want to limit them to add to their exclusivity. Something AM commented on about the dress code here is that it’s ‘hip’ to wear your pants falling down below your hips; looks really uncomfortable, but the amount of people wearing their trousers and shorts this way is remarkable.
After a few hours of the outlets we headed for Whole Foods for something to eat. It has a place to eat food there, with plastic cutlery, paper plates and cups, that really works out great for us;
it’s not complete rubbish like the food courts and it’s not that busy. We grabbed some rolls and ham and made them up. We also bought some tubs of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream ($12 in Point Cook…2 for $6 in Orlando). I particularly liked the John Lennon inspired “Imagine Whirled Peace” flavour.
