St Paddy’s Day

st paddies 1 (1 of 1)

We are Irish living in Australia, so it’s required to have a Guinness, and dress in green on Paddy’s Day. Maybe I won’t let the kids have the Guinness this year.

You know there is more to Ireland than Leprechauns and pots of gold? Seriously there is!

So besides coloring in Leprecauns, we take the week to brush up on our Irish history and geography, and I try to teach the kids a few Irish/Gaelic words. We read traditional Irish folk and fairy stories like The Children of Lir, which are so un-Disney and hardly ever have a happy ever after.

We also read some famous Irish authors like Jonathan Swift: Gulliver’s Travels, Samuel Beckett: Waiting for Godot, Bram Stoker: Dracula, poems by Seamus Heaney, Patrick Kavanagh and John Millington Synge.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!
