Melbourne Zoo

This week in Melbourne the schools went back after a two-week break. Some of my friends with school going kids rejoice in the peace that will come when the kids go back to school, some really miss their kids during school hours.  Either way, I rejoice when the schoolkids go back, as we get Melbourne back to ourselves. This means less crowds everywhere, and shorter lines. This week we went to Melbourne Zoo.

First up, check the map. My boys love maps, all five of them!

Melbourne Zoo

They decided to check out the new Lemur Island first.

Melbourne Zoo

Entering and exiting is through sets of ‘airlock effect’ double doors, to prevent lemurs escaping.

Melbourne Zoo

Enter through the first door when the light is green.

Melbourne Zoo

Wait inside till the first door closes, and light turns green on the second door.

Melbourne Zoo

Push the second door and enter.

Exiting is the same.

Melbourne Zoo

It was very exciting. Kind of like we were on a space ship.

Melbourne Zoo

There is no touching or feeding the lemurs inside. Volunteers are on hand to ensure the rules are followed.

While we were there a volunteer had his hands full supervising a young boy, and continually asking him not to approach the lemurs. Not a job I’d envy.

After, we brought the boys into the bamboo forest, with a plan to lose them.

But those little monkeys found us!

Meet Jack. That’s what we named him. Remember Jack the monkey from The Pirates of The Caribbean?

Melbourne Zoo

He is a Capuchin Monkey,  and we watched him for ages. IrishKing thought he would make a good circus performer.

The good news is that IrishKing loved the gift shop. He saw a few items of interest, including a tiger costume.

IrishKing, “This could remind me of Jack, can I get it?” This sounds familiar.

Melbourne Zoo

“Mum, this one is cheap, can I get it?” Déjà vu, big time!!!

Melbourne Zoo

“I love this zebra, can I get it?” Now I remember, he is One of ‘Those’ Kids!

Melbourne Zoo

While I tailed THAT kid around the shop IrishDev ‘minded’ the others.

Melbourne Zoo

Like father, like son!

Melbourne Zoo

And after a great day the kids were all zoo’d out!
