Werribee Open Range Zoo

Our quest to become Zoo Travellers continued when we visited Werribee Open Range Zoo. There was a movie being filmed at the zoo that day. I think the production company was called Annoying Kid Productions, a shady lot really.

The director also fancied himself as a photographer. I’d love to see some of his work.

Remember when we were in Queensland, and the boys decided they were going to start a collection of Press-A -Pennies? Well great news, Werribee Open Range Zoo has a penny machine, and even better news, there are four pennies to collect.  Fantastic, even more ways to spend money! I’ve tried to talk the boys into doing a kind of family collection, but they aren’t too keen, wanting their ‘own’ collections. What’s with kids and collections? Mine ‘collect’ so many things now, I think it’s just an excuse to shop.

We always have a peak in the donations box to see if there’s any unusual money.

Today we saw some Rupees. And one kid commented that if he smashed the glass he would have enough money to buy all the pressed pennies he wanted. Another quickly interjected that The Smasher Kid would enjoy his pennies from the comfort of his cell.

We did manage to find the Zoo Traveller destinations,

and fill out our passports.

The boys also bravely sat in a jeep that had a lion on the bonnet. My fearless kids!

Ok, there was a 2 inch thick piece of glass between them and the lion, but still…

Luckily, we didn’t see any snakes.

I don’t mind seeing them in a tank in controlled conditions, but they freak me out in their natural environment. Disturb them? Are they kidding??  I would be running the other way. What eejit would disturb them? Don’t they know the snakes here are mostly deadly!

My boys after Zoo no. 2 ticked off on our Zoo Traveller cards.  See how long the shadows are? Winter is coming. Actually, winter is here. Winter started on June 1st Down Under.
