HISTORY Through the Ages “Record of Time” Timeline.

A timeline helps children and adults make visual connections between events in history.  It displays the big picture of history, helping them remember important dates, events, and people. They can see what events took place at the same time, often thousands of mile apart. We chose HISTORY Through the Ages “Record of Time” as our timeline.

I love the binder, it’s a 12′ by 9″ hard-cover binder, beautifully illustrated with history events and a high gloss finish. Containing 122 ivory colored card-stock pages, giving a luxurious old-world feel. This timeline will last for all our history studies, a beautiful keepsake to remind us of our history.

It is often recommended that each child have their own timeline, but we find sharing one ‘Record of Time’ adequate for our needs. We fill in our timeline periodical. We like to use it as a review of a previous couple of months history, and will spend a couple of hours at it once every couple of months.

You can purchase timeline figures to go with the Record of Time, which may make keeping this timeline an easier and quicker task. We chose to make our own timeline pictures, as we want a more personal end result.

We use Free Educational Illustrations for Classroom, or search Google for the picture we want. We then print it with our DYMO Label Writer in black & white. My boys often color the picture in before placing it in the appropriate place on the timeline.

This timeline begins with large time periods between dates.  The years from 5,000 B.C. to 4,000 B.C. are shown on a two-page-spread, 1,000 years in view, as we don’t know a lot about what happened then.  As we move forward in history the time periods between dates reduces. From 1,250 B.C to 1,000 B.C is also show on a two page spread, 250 years in view.

Some important events are shown yearly.

At the back of the Record of Time there are seventeen classically drawn maps,

including Ancient Rome.

We love our Record of Time timeline, and I will keep it to show the grandkids!
